Your iPhone is more than capable of handling the job. You just need the right apps. PDFpen Scan+ happens to be an app that turns your iPhone or iPad into a scanner. You can perform scanning and OCR with this app on the go.

PDFpen Scan+ lets you use your phone as your portable document scanner. It can handle articles, recipes, and receipts. You will be able to extract text from scans using OCR. This app performs edge detection for you automatically. You can import scans from your photo library or PDF files. Scan pages can be rotated and printed with ease. You can control color, grayscale, and other settings.

PDFpen Scan+ has a lot of potential but it did crash on us a few times. It does offer decent OCR though. TurboScan and JotNot are still our favorite iPhone scanner apps.
