Losing an iPhone can be one of the toughest experiences any iPhone owner can encounter. But it happens to the best of us. You can always buy a new iPhone. What you can’t afford to do is give up and let others run with your sensitive data. Thanks to Apple’s Find My iPhone you won’t have to. The app works hand in hand with your MobileMe account to locate your device, lock it, and even remotely wipe its data.

Find My Mobile may require a MobileMe account, but that is a small price to pay if you have super sensitive data on your iPhone and want to have some insurance policy. The app locates your iPhone on a map. You can display a message on your iPhone’s screen and hope for the best. Of course, if your phone is stolen, you can use this service to help authorities catch the thief.

In order to get this service to work, you need to turn the app active on your devices after setting up your MobileMe account. You do get a 60-day trial period to test the service out. That’s a start. If you do not have a use for MobileMe or are using a competing service, then this app may not be that useful to you. Unless, you have made a habit of losing your iPhone all the time.

The app does what it promises though. Would have been nice if Apple had a separate subscription plan for it (or offered it completely for free).
