Send SMS with Freedom SMS

Freedom SMS is a messaging iPhone application that allows you to use your existing mail configuration to send SMS messages to anyone in your contact list. Even if you have an iPod Touch, you can still use this application to send SMS to all your friends.

All you have to do is choose the contact and type in your message. Freedom SMS then finds the carrier for your contact’s mobile number by connecting to the Freedom SMS’ online service. Messages are sent through the carrier’s email gateway using your iPhone’s setting. What I like about this application is the fact that you don’t need to know your destination’s carrier to get this app to work (replies will be sent to your e-mail account).

Freedom SMS is a great way to send SMS without having to pay for them. You can also send them from your iPod Touch which is a big plus. The only issue with this app is figuring out how to deal with ported numbers. Freedom SMS digs up the original carrier but if the number has been ported, you are going to have issues. The application works beautifully, and it only costs 1 dollar. If you are an iPod Touch owner, this is a must have.
