Textastic Code Editor for iOS

One does not need to carry a laptop to write or code these days. iPhones and iPads are more than capable of handling the job. In order to write things on your iOS device, you are going to need a decent text editor though. The Textastic app is a fantastic tool that works great for writers and programmers. Whether you are interested in writing in plain text or would like a tool that could handle coding in popular programming languages, Textastic Code Editor has you covered.

Textastic Code Editor has an elegant look. You can easily use it to write long pieces of text when you are on the move. But what sets this app apart from your average text editors is its brilliant support for over 80 programming and markup languages. You get syntax highlighting with code completion. Many essential features such as find/replace, auto-indentation, and file information are covered as well.

Just being able to write code on your iPhone is not everything you would need in a decent text editor. Thanks to Textastic, you can make FTP, FTPS, and SFTP connections on the go. WebDAV servers are supported as well. We really liked the enhanced keyboard included in this app. Of course, you could always connect an external keyboard to your iPhone or iPad to code like a real ninja.

Textastic provides support for TextMate syntax definitions and TextExpander. It is highly customizable and lets you import files using USB, through the cloud, or over WiFi. The app is amazingly stable for what it does. We would love to see support for more Cloud storage services. Nevertheless, Textastic is one of the best iOS code editors money can buy.
