Digg Reader for iPhone

By  |

Google Reader is finally dead. It is sad that Google had to pull the plug on it but that is what happens when a service is not generating enough interest or revenue to be kept around forever. The good news is Digg and a few other companies have stepped up to offer former Google Reader users an alternative.  Considering how little time the Digg team had to get the service going, their first effort is a good one. Digg Reader is already available online and on iOS devices

Most Google Reader users heard about Digg’s Reader weeks before their favorite RSS reader died. If you took time to import your feeds from Google Reader, you are mostly set. You can access your feeds online and on your iOS device. Adding new feeds can’t be any easier. This is a social RSS reader, so you can Digg stories or add them to Facebook, Twitter, or share via e-mail.

Digg lets you save your stories to Instapaper, Pocket, or Digg. It offers voice-over support. We would love to get more customization options. While the design is clean, it is missing advanced search and a few basic features. Considering how fast the Digg team put this together, Digg Reader will surely get a whole lot better in no time.
