App Reviews
Distant Suns 3
Distant Suns has been one of the best astronomy apps for iPhone for quite some time now. We had a chance to review the first version of this app a while ago. Distant Suns has gone through a significant transformation since then and now is one of the most popular universal apps (for iPhone & iPad around). This compare-aware app has everything astronomy fans need to explore the stars on their handheld Apple devices (no matter at what level you are in this field).
Distant Suns 3 has a very intuitive interface that makes it easy to take advantage of all its features without needing to a read a 200 page guide. It covers over 130K stars and has 88 constellations (including images and articles about their significance). DS is compare-aware, which means if your device has GPS capability on-board, you will be able to use this app to explore the sky in real time on your handheld device by pointing it to the stars.
DS covers a ton of objects and all the planets in our solar system. You’ve got plenty of options when it comes to modifying how stars are shown on your screen. Distant Suns 3 shows you the current weather patterns on the earth too, which is a nice addition.
Distant Suns is more than just an app. It’s a learning tool for anyone interested in this science. You’d be surprised how much you can learn by exploring the stars with this app (especially on an iPad). Distant Suns has a lot of value to offer to more advanced users too. It’s a complete solution for anyone interested in the field of astronomy.
